Bridget Katungi is crowned Miss Uganda UK 2016/17
Saturday 3rd December 2016 was the 6th annual crowning of Miss Uganda UK. In the end 8 finalists took centre stage in the battle for 1 to be crowned the new Queen taking over Miss Natasha Mutebi. The grand finale that was held in South London for the first firsttime in its history was a great hit and showed why it’s the leading event within the Uganda Community in the UK.
The grand finale kicked off in its traditional way saw the finalists take stage to perform their opening dance on a Eddy Kenzo song (Mbilo Mbilo) in an outfit designed by Yeaniva by Carmel Tucker. Six finalists (Lesley, Rebecca, Noor, Latisha, Bridget and Catherine) performed a talent round which consisted of traditional dances, singing and poetry. Entertainment on the night was from UK-Ugandan artists VJOJ and Record Heads that kept the crowd on their feet throughout the evening with their energetic and uplifting performances and attended by the Uganda High Commissioner in London Prof. Joyce Kikafunda who was the Guest of Honour.
25 year old Bridget Katungi emerged the winner on the night, Bridget who was contestant number 8 was also awarded The People’s Queen Award as she had the most votes by public voting online via the Miss Uganda UK official website, also awarded, Best Catwalk and Miss Personality. Miss Katungi will be carrying out the official Miss Uganda UK campaign alongside Jubilee Campaign UK raising awareness against Child Sacrifice in Uganda and is now the official ambassador & face and voice of Jubilee Campaign UK. In 2nd place was contestant No. 6 Latisha Antoine who was awarded (Face of e-Duuka and Keith Heart Foundation Ambassador), 3rd place was awarded to contestant no.1 Vanessa K Tino who was also won Miss Congeniality and Best Swimwear.
Other mini awards on the night went to: Best Ambassador 2016 - Lesley Tibihikira, Miss Photogenic 2016 – Rebecca Amuge, Miss Talent 2016 – Lesley Tibihikira,, Best Creative Wear 2016 – Lesley Tibihikira, Best Evening Wear 2016 – Rebecca Amuge, Hayaati Njuki was awarded Most Outstanding and Noor Kalumba Miss Eloquent by the Judges.
